Post surgical reflections – meditation for healing

This is a beginning for me! I may have written many pages of work in my years, but this is my first post to my EmpowerYouBlog.

Today’s post will just be a rumination on being alive on June 1, 2023. BE HAPPY! You are still alive! How many of us stop and simply give thanks every day that we ARE alive – still alive after all these years? Meditating is a form of thanks – if you take time to meditate on any given day, the first thing you should do is pronounce thanks to the Akasha for having the time to stop and meditate. If you’re reading this, you likely know the Akash (Akashic record?) is part of traditional Indian cosmology, but it is also the term ErvIn Laszlo uses in talking about the infinite intelligence that guides the creation of the universe. Of course Infinite Intelligence is another term for God for many in the New Thought movement of the early 20th century, whose latter day manifestations are seen in the likes of Dr. Wayne Dyer, Tony Robbins, Marianne Williamson, and a long list of others whom I will mention in later posts.

Being alive! To be! I had my left hip replaced a week ago today – May 25. Six years ago my (yes, my!) surgeon did my right hip. Arthritis! I have not learned how to meditate my way through or out of arthritis. Have you? My favorite New Thought author is Dr. Joseph Murphy. He is the only Christian minister I have ever heard talk about the Akasha as a fact! His The Power of Your Subconscious Mind is still a popular guide on how to meditate / pray for our physical, spiritual and economic well being. It is written in conversational style, and offers many examples (though quite dated) of people who sought help and were able to change their lives following Murphy’s advice. I highly recommend this book to you! Infinite Intelligence- Divine Law and Order (better than the NBC reruns), the God who Indwells us. The Life Principle. One could believe that arthritis could be overcome by the power of one’s mind, and I do believe it is so! It is getting oneself to relax far enough, to enter alpha, to “become as a child” and accept without question the idea that we can heal ourselves – of anything! – that is a challenge – or should I say the reason for this rumination? Why meditate? To enter into a deeper understanding of the ONEness of life that we may become able to negotiate our lives from the perspective of peace, harmony, and love, and thereby succeed in spreading the good vibes everywhere!

So the irony of being “post-surgical” is that this paid leave from my work gives me time to more deeply engage in meditation and thinking about life on earth. I firmly believe that schools should teach forms of meditation, not just “mindfulness,”  and explore the ideas of the power of our minds. Kids are taught to have a positive attitude, but if they were taught the science that shows how a positive vs negative belief system has real, physical, mental, monetary and situational results in people’s lives, we would begin to have an awakened populace. Every problem that you see around you is the result of mental “disorder,” of the chaos that results from undisciplined thinking on the part of the masses. Greed, malicious rather than cooperative competition, jealously, envy and the results of a mal-distribution of wealth and resources, social and political battles, war and the rest of it … you know the ills of society without my making a long list for you… CAN be overcome through meditation and a collective effort toward what Buddhism calls Right Thinking. In short, meditation is not just a good way to reduce stress and get better prepared for your next hectic day! It is a necessary step for society to begin to unite around our real common cause – a sustainable world, a sustainable lifestyle.

Read Ervin Laszlo’s The Survival Imperative. It’s a quick read – or maybe get your feet wet with some of his earlier, but recent works. Let me recommend this reading list for your month of June!

Science and the Akashic Field: An Integral Theory of Everythingthen read

Reconnecting to The Source: The New Science of Spiritual Experience, How It Can Change You, and How It Can Transform the World

Then go on to The Survival Imperative – the logic will feel more sound to you to this way.

Need more? If you are truly a seeker of examples of and guidance for meditation, read Dr. Joe Dispenza. His work that most closely parallels the two Laszlo books above is Becoming Supernatural: How Common People Are Doing the Uncommon. Look him up on YouTube and listen to one of his meditations – NOT your ordinary experience.

Most days I turn to YouTube for Dispenza or to listen to Sadhguru, and especially to Joseph Murphy. Try the following:

Then go explore all of those authors. A bit male heavy on this one? Florence Scovel Shinn. Her works are very much reflected in those of Joseph Murphy.

BE WELL, my friends! Take 10 minutes today for yourselves and meditate! Your day will change!
